To illustrate the extent to which Luxembourg-Americans participate on the US side in World War I, a detailed analysis of Luxembourg-American soldiers from Aurora, Kane County follows:

Aurora, Kane County, Illinois

Phillip Jungels, spouse Margaret and son William (Wilhelm), immigrants from Waldbillig, Luxembourg, settled there in August of 1850. Farmland was aplenty and affordable and later the Chicago Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) Railroad depot in Aurora provided good jobs too. Soon hundreds of Luxembourgers flocked to the area. Immigrants to Kane County, Illinois include the patriarch of the Hastert family, Christian Hastert, of Osweiler, Luxembourg, a 1868 immigrant, grandfather of J. Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives (1999-2007).
